There is no additional fan in the natural convection solar dryer, and the air flow depends on the temperature difference to flow in the drying chamber. According to different structures, there are mainly box type, shed type, greenhouse type, tray type and chimney type.

The forced convection type solar dryer relies on the temperature difference and the height difference between the air outlet and the inlet as the power of the air flow, and the natural convection type solar dryer is restricted in many ways. Especially when the material layer is thick, the particles are fine, and the porosity is small, the airflow resistance is large, and natural convection alone cannot meet the requirements for airflow velocity. For some improved solar dryers, the airflow needs to pass through additional devices such as heat accumulators, air heat collectors, and pipelines. Without additional power, the airflow cannot achieve effective flow. In addition, the exhaust temperature of the natural convection solar dryer is high, and the heat utilization rate is low. Fans should be used to realize waste heat utilization.
